National Mentoring Summit

Convened by MENTOR

As MENTOR's first Storytelling Communications Manager, I had the opportunity to develop content for the 11th Annual National Mentoring Summit. The virtual event, themed "Rising to the Moment," featured guests from the mentoring moment, including youth, mentoring advocators, and youth development experts. As part of the event, there were four plenaries, and I worked on Mentoring to Affirm and Support Racial Justice and Thank Your Mentor, in addition to writing the script for the event's youth emcees.

Role: Storytelling and Content Development, and Copy and Scriptwriting

Mentoring to Affirm & Support Racial Justice

Through a series of discussions, we investigated the mentoring relationship and how mentors can interrogate issues related to racism with the youth they mentor. I worked with Dr. Elizabeth Santiago to develop the discussion topics, narrative structure, and sourcing speakers.

This plenary featured commentary from young adults, activist Alicia Garza, author Clint Smith, and activist and Executive Director of the Okra Project Dominique Morgan.

Thank Your Mentor

Featuring real mentoring relationships, we used this plenary to create space for mentees and mentors to express gratitude to one another. During this plenary, I had the opportunity to interview two young students participating in 826 Boston's writers' program. In partnership with Adriane Alicea, we highlighted several participants from MENTOR's Youth Advocates for Mentoring program, a 10-month advocacy, policy, and grassroots organizing training program.
